Question: Palm with scanner for bar codes?

I am looking for a palm with a scanner to help in my business but I don't know what i am doing. I need it to be able to scan bar codes and link me to websites instantly. I can also use some help with software choices. I see people using these all the time at thrift stores and they wont talk to me about it. Please help me, I am currently using my motorola cliq to do this but it really sucks for this function. Is there a monthly fee like a cell phone? I honestly know nothing about this so any help would be great!!

Those devices costs an arm and a leg: ptshome.com/ palmbarcodescanners.shtml (for example) That's 600+ per device, NOT counting accessories. And they talk to your local computer (wifi access point, for example), You need a consultant.
